Horses and the Holidays: Practical Gift Wish-List Items For Horse Owners

By Sarah Welk Baynum

It’s a memory most of us life-long horse people probably have.

It’s Christmas morning, and the younger versions of ourselves anxiously await unwrapping each and every present under the tree, hoping that one particular gift we’ve had on our list is waiting for us.

Maybe it was that one Breyer horse we saw in a Christmas catalog. Or, maybe it was the riding breeches we tried on at our local tack store that we imagined ourselves wearing at the next horse show.

Whatever it was, Christmas time for horse-obsessed kids was one of the most magical and anticipated times of the year.

Now that we’re young adults and adults, our wish lists look a bit more practical. In fact, most of the things on our lists might have more items on there for our horses than ourselves!

Our loved ones know we own horses, but sometimes they just don’t know what to get us. After all, that pair of new riding boots you’ve had your eye on is a bit much of an ask for your family members.

Here are some suggestions for some of those more practical items that horse owners always seem to need, that our horses will love, and that are affordable enough that we don’t feel guilty putting them on our adult Christmas lists!

Horse Grooming Products

As horse owners, grooming our horses isn’t just about keeping them clean or keeping their skin, coat, and hooves in good health. As important as those things are, it’s also a chance for us to connect with them out of the saddle and deepen our bond with them.

That’s why horse grooming products are something we always need.

Fortunately, these products have a long shelf life, so even if you’re pretty stocked up and someone buys you more of these products, they won’t be going bad anytime soon. This makes grooming products a great wish-list item for family, friends, or even that one office co-worker that likes to get a little something for everyone.

Whether you’re getting your horse ready for a competition or giving them a much-needed bath, there are a number of great grooming products to add to your Christmas wish list.

The Blissful Pets has a wide-range of grooming products to choose from if you’re looking for some great, natural grooming product options for your Christmas list this year!

Bug Control

It may not be fly season right now, but in a few months, it will be once again time to buy fly spray and other bug control products.

With this affordable item on your Christmas list, you won’t have to worry about panic buying fly spray come Spring with the flies suddenly seem to appear out of nowhere!

A great combo kit that will keep your horses naturally bug-free come spring is the Bye Bye Bug Combo.

This kit includes the Bye Bye Bug Spray, Bye Bye Bug Bar Soap, and Bye Bye Bug Butter to keep your horse protected from flies and other bugs from head to toe.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy has been proven to have a wide range of benefits for horses.

As an added bonus, it’s another great way to connect with your horse and deepen your bond during a grooming session or when you’re just hanging out with them in a stall or paddock.

These products also make fantastic stocking stuffer Christmas list items because of their size and price point. If you’ve never tried aromatherapy with your horse, this is a great way to give it a try!

Aromatherapy comes in a number of forms and uses. For example, aromatherapy essential oils can offer benefits like calming, stress relief, or even uplifting moods and helping with depression.

During the winter, when turnout and riding can be limited, an aromatherapy session is a great way to provide your horse with relief from some of the symptoms related to excessive time in their stall.

For those winter rides that tend to be a bit “fresher” than you’d like, there’s an aromatherapy that helps those wound-tight, attention deficit horses focus a bit better. The Focus Horse Aromatherapy helps ground horses with an oil blend that will sooth, calm, and provide mental clarity.

For senior horses, the Age Well Horse Aromatherapy oil blend offers benefits unique to those of aging horses.

For horses that just need to take a breath and relax for whatever reason, the Relax Horse Aromatherapy oil blend is perfect for those spooky, high-strung horses.

Wound and Sensitive Skin Care

Horses will be horses. That means, you’ll always need wound care on hand when they decide to injure themselves in one way or another.

For some horses, sensitive, irritated skin is a constant battle. That’s why you can never have too much skin care lying around!

Another great kit that covers all your horses “boo boo bases” and makes a perfect Christmas wish list item for any horse owner is the Bye Bye Boo Boo Hello Bliss Combo Kit for Horses.

This natural 3-step plan includes the Bye Bye Boo Boo Shampoo and Spray, plus the Bye Bye Boo Boo Butter.

No matter what trouble your horse gets into, this kit will have everything you need to help heal their wounds or for those with sensitive skin irritation!
